To find out more...
Tommy Emmanuel is an Australian guitarist, renowned worldwide for his complex fingerpicking technique, in which he plays the melody, rhythm, bass and percussion simultaneously on a single acoustic guitar, much like a pianist. Born in 1955, he began playing the guitar at the age of four and turned professional at the age of six, learning entirely by ear without ever reading music. Nicknamed “CGP” (Certified Guitar Player) by his mentor Chet Atkins, he is famous for his energetic stage performances, full of humour and percussion, in which he sometimes uses a drum brush on his guitar. With a career spanning several decades, he was voted best acoustic guitarist by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine and won his first Grammy Award in 2024.
