Folk Guitar

The Alvarez Artist 60 AD60 delivers a clear, powerful sound thanks to its solid Stika spruce top and African mahogany back and sides. It features superior finishes and subtle details not found on its sister model, the AD30; in particular, the neck and bridge are made from mahogany and Indian laurel/rosewood.

In 2010, the AD60 was the model on which our new design team first focused. It became the benchmark model, setting the standard for both us and other brands. The team’s objective – and indeed their entire approach – was simply to build the best-performing entry-level guitar available. Alongside the development of our Artist Series, we were also developing bracing systems such as FST2 in the Yairi workshops, and the bracing patterns we cut by hand there were reproduced by machine for the Artist Series to create ‘our sound’ across our entire brand.

The result of months of R&D was the early ’60s series, which set the Artist Series apart from other high-end ranges and won numerous awards at trade fairs and in guitar magazines worldwide. Since then, the design and construction have continued to be redefined, making the Artist 60 Series a range that is quite difficult to compare with others.

The premium-quality North American Sitka spruce top is hand-selected and paired with high-quality laminated African mahogany back and sides. The response is quick, and its tone is open and dynamic, with plenty of bass and shimmering treble.

About the Artist Series
Our multi-award-winning Artist Series embodies our commitment to quality and design, making it one of the finest ranges of solid-body guitars in the world today.

The Artist Series guitars feel great and are a joy to play; whether you strum hard or pluck gently, the guitar will do exactly what you ask of it. For a more focused sound with fewer harmonics, choose a mahogany top. For a more open projection, opt for Sitka spruce. For greater warmth and responsiveness to a lighter touch, choose a cedar top.

All our tops are selected by our team and graded independently of our suppliers. If it isn’t up to standard, we won’t use it. Although the quality improves as you move up the Artist Series range, all tops are rigid and fine-grained.

After 55 years of guitar-making, continuous improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes and materials remains at the heart of our culture. Alvarez guitars are built to the highest standards in every respect, from the preparation of raw materials to the construction and manufacturing processes.

Our tonewoods are carefully seasoned; our components, such as neck blocks and wooden joints, are meticulously designed. The painting, sanding and polishing techniques we use are continually researched and developed, and our sound is impeccably crafted and paired with a stable, consistent and responsive soundboard.

This meticulous approach to development stems from a simple aim: to provide the best guitars on the market at every price point – instruments that offer truly incredible value and deliver a fantastic playing experience.

The term ‘solid top’ refers to a guitar’s soundboard made from solid wood rather than laminate. However, even when the guitar’s top is made of solid wood, the instrument’s sound only improves significantly when the entire guitar is properly constructed to optimise the energy that a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is designed to do exactly that.

Each model is designed to make the most of its components and ensure they work together to produce balance, lively projection and excellent response. These components include our FS6 bracing design, which allows the soundboard to resonate and ensures consistency across the Dreadnought, Grand Auditorium, OM and Parlour body sizes. This means that the voicing has a similar character, but the individual tone is more purely influenced by the size and shape of the guitar.

Our two-tier bridge is designed to increase string tension and improve sustain and response. A genuine bone nut and saddle, premium-quality wood and our handcrafted subdued finish enhance the build quality and have a positive impact on the instrument’s performance. The gloss models in the Artist series feature a clear, deep lustre, achieved through a finish applied as thinly as possible to optimise the tone. The character and voice of the Artist series are open, dynamic and instantly responsive.

Thank you for choosing Alvarez.
