Axel Technology’s DML Audio Automatic Archiving Licence is a software licence designed for the synchronisation and automated transfer of files from DML recorders. It meets the need to move recorded content to centralised storage without turning the capture system into a mere long-term archive.

The system operates by managing copies of the files produced by the DML units. Recordings can thus be transferred to a dedicated storage infrastructure, which is particularly useful in set-ups comprising multiple channels or multiple recording units. This separation allows the local resources required for capture to be retained whilst building an independent archive.

The DML Copy licence, combined with this archiving function, is designed to carry out transfers progressively. The copy speed can be controlled to minimise the impact on the network and prevent a large archiving operation from monopolising the available bandwidth. This approach allows the backup to run in parallel with the continuous recording of programmes.

Archiving can, in particular, be based on centralised storage equipped with a RAID architecture, with a RAID 5 or RAID 6 configuration recommended by Axel Technology for multi-channel environments. The transferred files can thus be retained beyond the archiving period available directly on the DML machines.

This licence therefore complements the native logging functions of DML Audio. Whilst the recorder ensures continuous capture and the automatic renewal of local files, automatic archiving allows content to be retained for longer on a separate infrastructure. It therefore provides a solution suited to installations wishing to implement a proper recording retention policy without disrupting the day-to-day operation of the logging system.
