Axel Technology - Talk Box

Designed for presenter desks connected to a broadcast console, the Talk Box from Axel Technology is a remote control unit that combines a microphone, headphones, ‘On Air’ indicators and talkback communication. It allows the presenter or guest to directly manage the essential functions of their desk without having to use the main console surface.

Connection to an Oxygen console is straightforward, using two RJ45 cables, the length of which can be adjusted to suit the studio layout. Up to four Talk Boxes can be connected to a single Audio I/O card, making it possible to equip several positions within the same setup.

The microphone is connected directly to the Talk Box and features dedicated controls accessible from the front panel. The two backlit buttons allow the microphone to be switched on or off, with a ‘Cough’ function to temporarily mute the signal whilst speaking. One of the buttons can also be used to trigger talkback to the console, facilitating communication with the control room team.

Signalling management is also part of the system. The Talk Box can control its own ‘On Air’ light and features a connection that also allows the studio’s ‘On Air’ light to be integrated. This gives the presenter immediate visual feedback on the status of their microphone and the broadcast.

For monitoring, the unit incorporates a headphone amplifier with two 6.3 mm jack outputs, allowing two pairs of headphones to be connected directly to the unit. The rear panel also includes an HDP output and input, as well as dedicated connections for the microphone and control functions.
