Joe Satriani, born in 1956, is an American guitar virtuoso and composer, often nicknamed "Satch". A true technical master of the guitar, he is famous for his melodic playing and use of legato, tapping and complex harmonies. His album "Surfing with the Alien" (1987) catapulted him to international stardom as an instrumentalist.
Fascinatingly, he is also an influential mentor, having taught other renowned guitarists such as Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Larry LaLonde (Primus). Despite his status as a guitar 'superstar', he remains renowned for his humility and absolute dedication to music.
