Presentation
In a professional mixing environment, the integration of external audio processing can quickly become complex. The DiGiCo DMI Waves simplifies this approach by enabling the Waves SoundGrid ecosystem to be integrated directly into the heart of DiGiCo consoles.
This expansion card transforms the console into a platform capable of managing plugins in real time, with latency low enough to be used live. In practical terms, this means access to an extensive library of audio processing, including equalisers, compressors, reverbs and mastering tools, without the need for complex external configurations.
Operation is based on the SoundGrid protocol, which allows audio processing to be deported to a dedicated server. The Waves DMI card then acts as an interface between the console and this system, transporting audio streams with great stability. This architecture ensures that all the processing power required is retained, even for large-scale productions.
One of the major advantages of this solution is its flexibility. Processing can be inserted on different sources or console busses, depending on the needs of the mix. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for live mixing, whether for front-of-house, monitoring or broadcast.
Integration with DiGiCo consoles is designed to be seamless. Waves plugins can be controlled directly from the console interface, eliminating the need for multiple control points. The user retains a clear view of his mix while benefiting from advanced processing tools.
The DMI Waves is a natural choice for modern set-ups, where audio systems need to be both powerful and modular. It makes it possible to add processing capabilities without modifying the overall architecture of the console, while remaining compatible with existing network environments.
This type of card is particularly relevant for demanding live productions, touring, fixed installations or hybrid workflows between stage and studio. It offers a simple way of enhancing a mix with established tools, while retaining the responsiveness needed for real-time work.
