Presentation
The Gibson Hummingbird Original, Left-Handed, Heritage Cherry Sunburst, features a colour gradient ranging from deep cherry to darker edges beneath a glossy nitrocellulose lacquer finish. This left-handed model, assembled in Gibson’s US workshops, retains the Square Shoulder proportions of the original Hummingbird model.
The mahogany neck, with its rounded profile and the same high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, is joined to the body via a composite dovetail joint, with a short scale length of 24.75 inches (628.65 mm), ideal for tight barre chords. The rosewood fingerboard, with a 12-inch (304.8 mm) radius, features twenty standard frets beneath mother-of-pearl inlays shaped as parallelograms, with matching dots along the edge. The bone nut, 1.72 inches (43.81 mm) wide, sits in front of the gold-plated Gotoh Keystone tuning machines.
The Belly Up bridge, crafted from the same bone as the nut and secured by Tusq pegs that mimic ivory, sits against the Sitka spruce top edged with a multi-ply binding, which is repeated on the mahogany back. The 0.060-inch Hummingbird pickguard and Hummingbird truss rod cover complete the gold-toned finish of the hardware. Beneath the bridge, the LR Baggs VTC piezo system houses its volume and tone controls within easy reach.
The standard strings, gauged from .012 to .053, are suited to both bold strumming and the nuanced playing styles of the folk and country repertoire that this model has embodied for decades. The guitar comes in a hard case, along with the Gibson accessory kit for routine maintenance.

Gibson, an American brand founded in the early 20th century, launched the Hummingbird in 1960 – the first Gibson model with square shoulders. Its ornate pickguard became a striking visual feature. The guitar subsequently featured in the hands of Keith Richards, Brian Jones and other artists. Its American manufacture, traditional woods and visual identity have fostered enduring loyalty. The Hummingbird thus remains a benchmark sought after by acoustic guitar enthusiasts across several generations.
