Presentation
The XK-5 uses new technology to recreate the sound of Hammond's tone-wheel generator, with unprecedented precision and flexibility.
The generator spun discs, each with a sensor pointing to the edge of the disc, 'teeth' cut into the edge of the discs and the speed of rotation determined the sound.
Modelling and sampling are combined in an exclusive process to capture the frequencies of the 91 phonic wheels found in the original organs, not to mention other important sonic details such as key clicks, harmonic percussion, vibrato-chorus, etc.
With this process, Hammond is one step closer to realism.

On classic Hammonds organs, pressing a key closes nine mechanical contacts: one for each drawbar.
While your ears usually hear the multiple harmonics as a single note, if you press a key slowly, you can hear the harmonics starting to sound, one after the other.
In the XK-5, these are three mechanical contacts at different points along the stroke of the keys which, coupled with their in turn three virtual contacts, give the same effect as the original nine-contact electromechanical instruments.
The result is a finger-sound connection that perfectly reproduces the sound of vintage B organs, while saving weight and production costs.
The behaviour of these virtual contact points is programmable, allowing you to recreate the behaviour of vintage instruments to perfection and go even further, capturing every nuance of your playing in the DAW program of your choice, which you will have connected directly to the XK-5 via a USB cable.
