In rehearsal or in concert, it limits wear on the piston block caused by friction without interfering with your playing. The plastic used in its manufacture is robust but flexible, making it easy to fit. Simply wrap it around the valves and you're ready to go. Even after repeated use, it retains its shape and stays firmly in place.
