Hiwatt - DR201 David Reeve Custom

The Hiwatt DR201 Head is a 200W tube bass head that captures the legendary sonic essence of Hiwatt amps. Inspired by Dave Reeves' original circuit from the 60s, it combines a crystal-clear sound with natural, controlled overdrive, ideal for those seeking a sound that's both precise and dynamic.

The 4 KT88 tubes in its power section give it a fast response and impressive headroom reserve, capable of sublimating bass, down-tuned or baritone guitars, as well as other broad-spectrum instruments.

The DR201 offers 2 channels, Normal and Brilliant, each with independent high- and low-impedance inputs. Channels can be bridged for extra gain and dynamic EQ control via separate channel volumes.

This configuration makes it easy to adapt the sound to different microphones, whether they lack presence or are too aggressive in the treble, while retaining the Hiwatt signature.

Controlling the DR201 is simple and intuitive. Each channel has its own volume, complemented by a Master Volume, a three-band EQ common to both channels and a Presence control for adjusting the overall brightness.

The head is equipped with jack and Speakon outputs for external speakers, with selectable impedance (4 Ω, 8 Ω, 16 Ω), as well as a standby and master switch. Every component is hand-wired in the UK to Harry Joyce's military standards, with Partridge™ transformers to ensure sonic fidelity and accuracy.

Lightweight and robust thanks to its 18mm birch plywood construction, the DR201 is designed for stage and studio alike. It is easy to transport while remaining true to its legendary sound, capable of rendering the nuances of playing and effects with detail and depth.

The pedals remain transparent, and channel bridging lets you explore new sonic textures while retaining Hiwatt's typically British character.
