Presentation
The Hiwatt DR504 1x12 Fane Purpleback is a tube combo designed for those looking for a clear, precise sound that can be adapted to different musical situations.
With its 50 watts and 12-inch Fane Purpleback driver, it offers a comfortable volume reserve for studio, rehearsal and live performance. Every detail has been designed to preserve the purity of the sound, from the effects pedals to the subtlest nuances of your playing, without overpowering the natural dynamics of the instrument.
The two channels, Normal and Bright, allow you to explore different sonic textures. Normal provides a clear, defined base, while Bright brings a little more presence to the highs, useful for bringing out certain details or playing more percussive lines.
By bridging the two channels, we obtain a slight natural drive that enriches the sound without distorting the timbres, offering a rendering close to the typical Hiwatt crunch at volumes adapted to the recording. The presence and three-band equalisation allow you to shape the sound intuitively, adjusting the bass, midrange and treble according to your needs and the acoustics of the room.
The internal design of the DR504 reflects David Reeves' historic expertise. Point-to-point wiring, Partridge™ transformers and careful component selection ensure a stable, consistent sound that can be felt with every note.
Even when pushing the volume, the DR504 remains responsive, with a detailed sound that respects the attack of the strings and the personality of each instrument. This attention to detail makes the amp particularly versatile: it accepts guitars, basses, keyboards or acoustic instruments, delivering a faithful, balanced reproduction.
Its simple configuration allows you to concentrate on playing rather than on technique. The amp doesn't require a complex pedalboard and stays true to the effects you add, making it accessible yet powerful. Its sober black Tolex finish and compact size make it easy to transport and install, while offering a sound capable of filling a studio or small stage with naturalness and clarity.

To find out more...
Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
