Presentation
The DR504 Combo 2x12 Fane Purpleblack is a 50W reissue of the legendary DR103. It retains the sonic personality that made Hiwatt famous in the 1970s: a clear, precise sound capable of expressive crunch. With its reduced power, it offers the iconic British character at a more moderate volume, ideal for recording or playing in spaces where the DR103 would be too imposing.
The special feature of this combo is its two Fane Purpleback 12-inch drivers, specially designed for Hiwatt. Each can handle up to 150 W, so you can turn up the volume while maintaining clear, detailed sound. This dual speaker system opens up a wide spectrum of sound, from brilliant clean to characteristic crunch, and makes the response of the effects pedals faithful and nuanced.
Built to David Reeve's original specifications and hand-wired using Harry Joyce's methods, the DR504 faithfully reproduces the historic circuit. The ECC83 and EL34 tubes contribute to this sonic personality, providing a significant reserve of power without distorting the signal. The adjustments - volume, 3-band EQ and presence - have an immediate effect on the sound, for greater control and responsiveness.
The DR504 is not limited to guitars: bass, keyboards and acoustic instruments can also be played thanks to its wide frequency response. The two speakers and the possibility of bridging the channels deliver an open, dynamic sound, capable of adapting to every style and every situation.
Whether you're looking for a crystal-clear clean, an expressive crunch or a powerful overdrive, this amp delivers every nuance with precision, allowing you to play with textures and intensity just like a historic model, but in a more manageable and practical format.

To find out more...
Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
