Amplifier Heads for Guitar

Rediscover the character of the great Plexiglas with Hiwatt's Park P75 Classic, a 1969 tube head powered by 2 KT88s. Capable of delivering 75 watts clean and up to 90 watts peak, it retains a precise, dynamic and punchy soundstage, even at high volume. Practical options like midrange boost and MVIP ensure total control, making this amp a benchmark for band and studio playing.

When it comes to the spirit of Plexi amps, the Park P75 Classic occupies a special place. Designed in 1969 and directly inspired by the Fender Tweed Bassman™ circuit, this model pushes the original format to the limit. With 50 watts clean and up to 90 watts peak when the amp is pushed, it combines fullness and precision, while remaining true to the raw sound of the classics. The result is a head that retains the richness of the midrange and the openness of the treble, but adds a depth of bass that few amps of this generation could offer.

The heart of the P75 is a pair of KT88 tubes. More imposing and powerful than the EL34s used on standard Plexi models, they provide a firmer low register, increased dynamic reserve and an articulation that lends itself equally well to clean sounds and natural saturation. This choice makes it the most powerful Park amp of its time, renowned for its ability to retain detail even at high volume.

In terms of use, the P75 offers 4 inputs spread over 2 channels. Each can be used separately or bridged to combine sonic characters, a common practice for guitarists looking for more nuance. A common three-band EQ, plus a presence control, allows you to fine-tune the amp's response to suit your guitar and playing style. The PPIMV (Post Phase Inverter Master Volume), now integrated as standard, gives access to power stage saturation even at low volume, while offering the possibility of recovering the original behaviour when it is pushed all the way up.

Mitch Colby's modifications, such as the push/pull midrange boost, enhance the amp's capabilities without altering its character. Whether playing with pedals, exploring more saturated textures or enjoying a massive clean, the Park P75 Classic remains an iconic head that retains its character while adapting to modern needs.

Jim Marshall is best known for running a shop where local musicians could meet, swap and try out equipment. He sold his amps worldwide under the Marshall brand, but in the UK he used the name Park Amplifiers. The shop served as a valuable testing ground for new products and kept Jim in touch with the exploding UK music scene. Park amps, often described as 'a bit hotter', are highly sought after in the UK as they are much rarer than their Marshall-branded equivalents.

Mitch Colby has devoted his life to working with Marshall Amplification and has spent a dozen years perfecting the Park range. He's taken the best existing circuits and painstakingly recreated the original sounds and tonal signature of Jim's early days. In addition, Mitch has designed four new amplifiers to carry on the spirit and incredible legacy of Jim Marshall and the Park Amplifiers.
