iZotope Neutron 5 is a suite of plug-ins designed to cover a wide range of modern mixing requirements. It comprises 11 plug-ins: a main plug-in, or ‘mothership’, and 10 modules that can be used individually. This architecture allows you to build a complete processing chain within Neutron or to insert the required module directly onto a track.
The Mix Assistant, based on AI-powered technology, analyses the signal and creates a customised processing chain to quickly provide a starting point. The user then retains control over the settings and can refine the result using the suggested instrument profiles or their own reference material.
Neutron 5 introduces three new modules. Clipper allows you to control peaks and add density whilst recovering headroom, with multiband processing, Mid/Side and Transient/Sustain modes, and 4x oversampling. Density is an upward-acting compressor designed to boost the weakest parts of a signal without altering the content above the threshold. Phase analyses phase and asymmetry issues to facilitate the alignment of signals, particularly in multi-mic takes or layered sounds.
These new tools complement the Equaliser, Compressor, Exciter, Gate, Sculptor, Transient Shaper and Unmask. The latter detects frequency conflicts between two tracks and dynamically applies spectral processing to free up space in the mix.
Neutron 5 also offers two new processing modes: Mid/Side, for processing the centre and sides of the stereo field separately, and Transient/Sustain, for independently targeting transients or sustained content. Delta buttons allow you to hear the effect produced by each module directly, whilst the visualisations and metering have been improved.
Finally, Visual Mixer and Relay round off the workflow by facilitating the spatial organisation of the mix and communication between the various compatible iZotope plugins. Neutron 5 thus provides a particularly comprehensive environment for quickly transforming a mix that needs balancing into a precise and controlled mix.
