To find out more...
Larry Carlton was also a much sought-after musician for his ability to play sophisticated arrangements 'sight unseen' from the first take, an essential skill in the Los Angeles studios where recording time was very limited.
He developed a very rich harmonic language based on jazz extensions (9th, 11th, 13th), but always integrated into simple melodic lines, which makes his playing immediately legible to the listener.
He influenced modern production by showing that the guitar could be a rhythmic, harmonic and melodic element without ever overloading the arrangement.
