Pearl - CMB2814-33 Competitor Pure White 28 x 14"

In a marching band, the bass drum must maintain a strong presence whilst remaining light enough to keep up with the band’s movements. The Pearl CMB2814-33 Competitor Pure White features a 28 x 14" format to produce a rich, projecting low-end. Its shell is constructed from six plies of poplar and Gabon mahogany, a combination that promotes good response in the midrange and bass frequencies as well as a full-bodied sound. Pearl’s Superior Shell Technology (SST) relies on carefully selected layers of wood, precision-machined and assembled under high pressure to create a perfectly airtight and uniform shell.

The six acoustically positioned vents allow air to escape rapidly and contribute to the instrument’s response and projection. The 45° bevel also optimises the performance of the acoustic chamber to enhance the volume and responsiveness of this bass drum. Despite its generous dimensions, the Competitor series features a lightweight design, which is particularly advantageous for marching performances where the instrument must be carried and played whilst on the move.

The CMB2814-33 features 1.5-inch-wide, 6-ply maple hoops with a gloss black finish. Their substantial width is combined with wide triple-reinforced lugs, designed to distribute tension evenly around the hoop and maintain stable tuning. The die-cast zinc tension shells complete this construction and are designed to withstand the tuning demands of modern use.
