The Pearl PBSK-70 shekere is a hand-held percussion instrument designed to recapture the spirit of traditional shekeres while gaining in reliability. Pearl has chosen fibreglass to reproduce the shape and sound of a natural calabash. This material is more resistant to impact and climatic variations. It also produces a more even sound projection, which is appreciated when playing together or on stage.

With its 10" diameter, this medium-sized model is easy to hold. The mesh of black, yellow and red beads is fully adjustable to suit your playing style. By tightening the beads, you get a drier, more precise response. Loosen them and the sound becomes fuller and softer.

The instrument can be played by shaking, sliding the beads or striking the bottom, opening up a wide range of rhythmic possibilities. The shekere has a natural place in the music of West Africa and Latin America. It can also be used in contemporary pop and world music contexts.
