Hand Percussion

The Pearl PBSK-70 Seguindo 10" shekere is a hand percussion instrument inspired by the traditional shekeres of West Africa. Made from fibreglass, it has the same shape and sound character as a calabash, but with added strength and projection. Its adjustable bead netting makes it easy to vary the textures and sensations of playing!

ARTICLE N° 117258
The Pearl PBSK-70 shekere is a hand-held percussion instrument designed to recapture the spirit of traditional shekeres while gaining in reliability. Pearl has chosen fibreglass to reproduce the shape and sound of a natural calabash. This material is more resistant to impact and climatic variations. It also produces a more even sound projection, which is appreciated when playing together or on stage.

With its 10" diameter, this medium-sized model is easy to hold. The mesh of black, yellow and red beads is fully adjustable to suit your playing style. By tightening the beads, you get a drier, more precise response. Loosen them and the sound becomes fuller and softer.

The instrument can be played by shaking, sliding the beads or striking the bottom, opening up a wide range of rhythmic possibilities. The shekere has a natural place in the music of West Africa and Latin America. It can also be used in contemporary pop and world music contexts. The brown finish is visually reminiscent of a natural gourd. The whole thing is light and pleasant to handle over time.
