SoundCraft - Vi400/600 Upgrade

The Avid Vi400/600 Upgrade is an upgrade solution for Soundcraft Vi4 and Vi6 consoles. This control module directly replaces the original system, often referred to as the "Silver Box", to provide a faster, more reliable platform that is compatible with the V6.x software environment used on the Vi000 series consoles.

The upgrade retains the existing control surface while significantly improving overall system performance. The new module incorporates a more powerful processor and a modernised graphics architecture using DisplayLink-based directly soldered outputs, eliminating the limitations associated with older PCI graphics cards.

Once upgraded, the console physically retains its Vi4 or Vi6 appearance, but is recognised as Vi400 or Vi600 in the system interface. The benefits of this upgrade include a boot-up time of around 30 seconds, improved overall surface responsiveness and smoother layer changes and control manipulations.

The Vi400/600 Upgrade also introduces the new 3D-Vistonics graphical interfaces inspired by the Vi000 consoles, while adding advanced functions such as full ViSi Remote control, Shure monitoring, mirroring mode between two consoles and the use of Virtual Vi to control the system in parallel with the physical surface.

Extended compatibility with different Local Racks is another major advantage. The upgraded surface can work with both a Vi4/6 Classic rack and a Vi5000/7000 rack, offering greater flexibility for existing infrastructures and future upgrades.

Installation of the module remains relatively simple, thanks to a design that is mechanically compatible with the original system. Replacement does not require soldering and can be carried out using standard tools, making it easy to integrate into touring, broadcast or fixed installation environments.

This upgrade is a particularly appropriate solution for prolonging the operation of existing Vi4 or Vi6 consoles, particularly as a back-up surface, secondary system or cost-effective alternative before moving on to a full Vi5000 or Vi7000 platform.
