Those familiar with the golden age of audio recording will know that George Starbird's legendary Model 180 studio stand has earned a place alongside the vintage microphones, consoles and analogue equipment of the era.

Starbird founded Meletron Corporation in Los Angeles in 1939 to manufacture radio parts.
He designed the Model 180 studio stand for large broadcast environments in the 1940s and recording studios quickly discovered its unmatched range, range of motion and stability and adopted it as the large mic stand of choice.
Meletron concentrated on manufacturing pressure-sensitive mechanical switches for the lucrative aerospace, military and industrial markets in the early 1950s and ceased trading in 1970.

Manley Laboratories, Inc, a leading manufacturer of professional studio and hi-fi audio equipment, purchased the Model 180 tooling and trademark in 1991 and produced an updated version of the Starbird at its California facility until 2010.

Now in its third iteration, Starbird by Triad-Orbit (T-O SB-1) incorporates patented T-O innovation to bring new levels of performance, versatility and stability to the legendary Model 180.

Most importantly, all the components of the new Starbird Triad-Orbit mount fit into the original Starbird mounts.
