Zildjian’s history dates back to 1623, when Avedis Zildjian established his first cymbal workshop in Constantinople. The name Zildjian literally means ‘cymbal maker’.
The brand has preserved an alloy recipe rooted in this family tradition, with copper, tin and silver at the heart of its time-honoured process. Its American history began in 1929 with the establishment of a foundry in Massachusetts.
Zildjian has since been at the forefront of major developments in drumming, notably with the development of the hi-hat and cymbals designed for the drum kit. The brand will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2023.
