Zildjian’s history dates back to 1623, when Avedis Zildjian I was granted permission by the Ottoman sultan to set up a cymbal foundry in Constantinople. The name Zildjian means ‘cymbal smith’ in Armenian.
Over the centuries, the family business has been at the forefront of several major developments in drumming. In the 1930s, Avedis Zildjian III worked with Gene Krupa to develop thinner cymbals designed for the modern drum kit.
This initiative contributed to the emergence of models that have since become classics, including the Crash, Ride, Splash and Hi-Hat.
