Do you need help?
Some basses have that special way of standing out without needing to go over the top. With its Gloss Olive Green finish, matching headstock and chrome hardware, the Saint Roasted LH exudes a look that harks back to the glory days of rock whilst retaining a decidedly contemporary silhouette. For a left-handed bassist, the double-cutaway body naturally follows your movements along the neck, whilst the 34-inch scale length and 20 frets provide familiar ground for laying down a groove, building a melodic line or simply letting the notes breathe.

When it comes to tone, the Saint lets you choose your own character rather than confining you to a single sound. Its pair of Alnico P-J pickups combines the deep, rich tone of the P-Bass with the more precise, bitey attack of the J-Bass. The result can range from a round low end that provides a solid foundation for the track to a more edgy tone when you need every note to stand out more clearly. Both pickups are hand-wired and controlled by two volume controls and a tone control – a simple setup that lets you shape your sound quickly, whether you’re playing with a pick or your fingers.

The poplar body features a bolt-on neck and a roasted maple fingerboard, whose warm hue contrasts beautifully with the olive green finish. The 6 mm black dots serve as position markers whilst reinforcing this vintage aesthetic, whilst the Vintage tuners and fixed bridge remain true to the same style. This Saint can therefore suit a bassist who favours deep, measured lines just as well as one who prefers a more expressive and punchy attack. And when the session is over, its gig bag makes it easier to transport whilst keeping it protected.

With its 34-inch scale length and original 45-105 string gauge, the Saint Roasted Olive Green offers a familiar foundation for the electric bass. If you change the gauge or type of strings, bear in mind that this can alter the tension on the neck and may therefore require a new adjustment. This is particularly worth bearing in mind if you want to switch to lighter strings for greater flexibility, or, conversely, to a heavier gauge to achieve more tension under your fingers. After a significant change, checking the neck adjustment and intonation will ensure a comfortable action and in-tune notes along the entire length of the neck. When transporting your bass, also remember to allow it to gradually return to room temperature if it has come from a very hot or very cold environment before playing or adjusting it.
