The collaboration between Marcus Miller and Miles Davis has left its mark on the history of contemporary jazz. Marcus composed, produced and played on several of the trumpeter's albums during the 1980s. He was notably involved in "Tutu", released in 1986, considered to be one of Miles Davis's most modern albums. Marcus Miller's electronic bass lines, rhythmic programming and synthetic textures redefined the sound of jazz fusion. This collaboration also demonstrated his talent as a producer. Even after the death of Miles Davis, Marcus continues to perform pieces from this period regularly on stage throughout the world.
