A single unit is sufficient here to cover a large part of the radio audio chain: 5-band processing, MPX generation, power control, RDS, changeover and IP stream management. The Falcon X7 adds advanced streaming and monitoring functions to this architecture, enabling it to integrate seamlessly into both a traditional FM setup and a digital broadcasting infrastructure.

Presentation
The Falcon X7 is the most comprehensive model in Axel Technology’s Falcon X range. Its appeal lies not only in the quality of its audio processing, but also in the sheer number of functions it packs into a 1U rack-mount chassis. Audio processing, an MPX stereo generator, MPX power control, RDS management, changeover, a backup player and streaming functions can all be combined within a single unit.
The Dual Processing architecture allows two output channels to be processed simultaneously. One channel operates up to 15 kHz for FM, whilst the other maintains a bandwidth of up to 20 kHz for DAB, HD Radio, Sirius XM or web radio. The processing delay can be adjusted up to 3.5 seconds to compensate for latency differences between the various distribution modes.
In terms of processing, the X7 features a 5-band architecture combining dual AGC, compression, limiting, 3-band equalisation, Stereo Enhancer, Speech Detector, Phase Rotator, Bass Enhancer and brightness control. The settings allow you to create a unique sound signature for each station, with over 240 factory presets and 20 user slots.
The MPX generator is directly integrated into the DSP and features two independent analogue outputs as well as an AES192 digital output. Power control complies with ITU BS.412 recommendations. The optional RDS encoder supports static and dynamic services, whilst the changeover function can monitor different sources and automatically ensure programme continuity.
The X7 goes even further with its integrated decoder and streamer. Two audio streams can be received as sources and an additional stream can be generated at the output, with support for multiple codecs and the RTP, RTSP, TCP/IP and UDP protocols. Administration is carried out via the built-in web server, supplemented by SNMP, serial interfaces, GPIs/GPOs and the ability to save settings to a microSD card.
