B&C Speakers - ME142 Horn

In a sound system, we often think of speakers, amplifiers, and processing; yet, some less visible components play an equally essential role.

The B&C Speakers ME142 horn, for example, may not seem spectacular at first glance, but it's precisely this kind of component that makes a well-designed system excel. Developed for compression drivers with a 1.4-inch output, it's primarily intended for line array systems or large front speakers, where even coverage is essential.

What's striking about the ME142 is its wide 120° horizontal aperture, which allows for a clear and well-distributed signal to be delivered over a wide area, without unnecessarily multiplying the number of sources. This is a real plus in a venue, but also outdoors, especially when it comes to maintaining consistent intelligibility across the entire audience.

Technically, it stands out for its ability to efficiently load from 800 Hz, which greatly simplifies work in a two-way configuration. Its profile, designed like an optimized waveguide, allows for controlled directivity and a beautiful, consistent response, even off-axis. And this consistency is clearly audible, especially on vocals and delicate mix elements.

Its cast aluminum structure makes it lightweight, robust, and provides good thermal management. This is no small feat when integrated into touring speakers or fixed installations subject to repeated mechanical stress. With its compact dimensions (163 x 130 x 180 mm) and a weight of just over one kilogram, it easily fits into compact enclosures.

The four-point mounting on a 102 mm circle ensures immediate compatibility with a wide variety of 1.4" engines. As for the internal volume of 0.34 dm³, it guarantees a good coupling with the engine, without unwanted coloration.
