The Denis Wick 6882 Heavy Top trumpet mouthpiece plays on a clever paradox: make the top heavier to lighten the playing. The principle behind the Heavy Top is simple: add mass to the bowl and throat to stabilise the air column. Sounds basic. In reality, it changes everything. Your sound becomes denser, and unwanted vibrations die out.
In terms of dimensions, the 1X size has a 17.50 mm bowl diameter and a 5.25 mm rim. Wide enough for comfort, precise enough for control. The Barrel rear bore and 3.9 mm bore work together for a clean attack and a round air column.
In practice, the result is immediately perceptible playing stability. The highs hold, the mids sing, the sound stays centred whatever you play. The improved sound projection does the rest: your trumpet crosses the desk without you having to force it.
