Elokance - Orus 218SA Array

The elokance Orus 218SA Array is the sort of subwoofer you set up when the bass needs not only to be heard, but also to gently resonate through your chest. Its dual 18-inch active configuration is designed for concerts, festivals, large DJ nights and events where a little extra extension at the lower end of the spectrum is clearly no longer enough.

Each of its two 18-inch drivers features a 4-inch voice coil. This design enables them to withstand heavy loads whilst maintaining controlled reproduction of bass-heavy content. Acoustic bass drums, electric bass, techno, hip-hop and cinematic effects thus gain in weight and depth.

The Class D amplification delivers 2 × 2,000 W RMS, giving a total power output of 4,000 W RMS. It can reach a maximum of 8,000 W. The subwoofer delivers up to 142 dB SPL peak, with sufficient headroom to support a large front-of-house system without pushing individual drivers to their limits.

Its frequency response covers 35 to 150 Hz at -10 dB. The Orus 218SA Array therefore goes low enough to reproduce deep, impactful bass, whilst extending high enough to ensure an effective crossover with the line array modules. You can adjust the crossover settings and the number of subwoofers to suit the size of the audience, the musical style and the venue’s acoustics.

The on-board DSP utilises FIR filters to improve temporal coherence and processing accuracy. Dante technology adds the ability to transmit the audio signal over a compatible network. This connection simplifies large-scale installations and prevents the control room from becoming a tangled mess of analogue cables.

An XLR input receives the signal, whilst an XLR output allows the signal to be routed to another speaker or a component in the system. Cooling is provided by a passive heat sink. This means it generates no fan noise and minimises maintenance required for fans.

The multi-layer plywood enclosure provides a rigid structure suitable for portable use. Its water-resistant black paint protects the finish from splashes and the usual hazards of on-site set-ups. Please note, however, that the cabinet is not advertised as waterproof and must be kept protected from the rain.

Weighing 93 kg, the Orus 218SA Array requires organised handling and suitable equipment. Once installed, it provides a solid foundation on which the front panel can rest without losing depth as the volume increases.
