Do you need help?
If you’re looking for an active speaker capable of handling music, vocals and live performances without having to use multiple devices, the ZEFIR 15A ticks quite a few boxes. Elokance has combined a 15-inch woofer, an 800 W RMS Class D bi-amplifier and a DSP that can be controlled directly via an LCD screen.

Its 15-inch woofer features a 3-inch voice coil. It works in conjunction with a 5.3-inch tweeter fitted with a 2-inch voice coil. The frequency response ranges from 45 Hz to 20 kHz and the sound pressure level reaches 126 dB SPL, with peak levels claimed to reach up to 132 dB.

The 15" model is particularly useful when playing music with content in the lower end of the spectrum. Whether for DJ sets, live bands or musical entertainment, the ZEFIR 15A can operate as a full-range speaker for a wide range of performances. If your programme requires even more power below 45 Hz, adding a subwoofer is obviously the best option.

The built-in DSP isn’t just there to look good on the spec sheet. It controls the speaker’s processing and allows you to tailor its equalisation to the venue or application. FIR PHASE technology works in parallel to ensure phase coherence between the different channels.

You can also do without a mixing desk in a lightweight setup. There’s an XLR combo input for a microphone, a second for a line-level source, and a mini-jack input for a music player or mobile device. An XLR output then lets you send the signal to another component in your system.

For your playlists, Bluetooth means you don’t need to use an extra cable. And if you have two ZEFIR 15A speakers, TWS mode allows you to pair them to create a Bluetooth stereo setup.

The ZEFIR 15A measures 435.4 x 398.1 x 713 mm and weighs 27 kg. A protective cover is available as an optional extra if the unit is regularly going to be packed into a car boot, loaded onto a loading ramp or subjected to the trials and tribulations of event set-up.
The ZEFIR 15A features a dedicated DSP for audio management as well as FIR PHASE technology. The equaliser settings allow you to adjust the sound processing, whilst the LCD screen provides access to the available information and settings. In terms of connectivity, the speaker features an XLR combo socket for a microphone, an XLR combo socket for line-level signals, a mini-jack aux input and an XLR output.

The TWS stereo Bluetooth function enables a stereo link to be established between two speakers. With a maximum SPL of 126 dB and a peak level of 132 dB, the ZEFIR 15A is designed for sound reinforcement in a full-scale setup. It measures 435.4 x 398.1 x 713 mm and weighs 27 kg. A carry bag is available separately.

ZEFIR 12A or ZEFIR 15A?
The most obvious difference is, of course, the woofer. The ZEFIR 15A features a 15-inch woofer and extends down to 45 Hz, compared with 50 Hz for the ZEFIR 12A.

This makes it particularly appealing if you want to use your speakers without a subwoofer for gigs where the music needs to retain more body in the bass. On the other hand, it’s bulkier and weighs 27 kg.

Is a subwoofer still useful?
Yes, especially for DJing, electronic music or a band requiring high energy in the very low frequencies.

The ZEFIR 15A can provide full-range sound on its own in many situations. However, adding a subwoofer takes the load off the main speakers in the lowest part of the spectrum and helps build a more powerful system.

What are the DSP and FIR used for?
The DSP processes the signal before amplification and allows you, in particular, to adjust the equalisation. FIR PHASE technology influences the system’s temporal response and phase.

The aim is to maintain a coherent transition between the woofer and the tweeter, rather than letting the two transducers play at cross purposes, like a band that’s forgotten to rehearse.

What is it used for?
You can use the ZEFIR 15A for a DJ set, a concert, a rehearsal, an entertainment event, a conference or any event requiring powerful sound reinforcement.

For a small setup, simply plug in your microphone and music. For a more comprehensive system, simply connect your mixer’s output to the line input.
