Guitar Hollow Body

The Epiphone Alex Lifeson 1976 ES-355 Reissue Alpine White has the refined look of the model used by the Rush guitarist, with a high-gloss finish that catches the light immediately. The semi-hollow body in laminated maple and poplar, combined with the solid maple centre block, delivers a full, responsive and stable response on stage and in the studio. The 3-piece glued neck with Slim C profile glides quickly under the hand, and the ebony fingerboard adds a pleasantly precise attack. With its gold hardware, Vibrola Maestro and Varitone circuitry, this half-drum has a marked sonic personality, almost as unpredictable as a progressive solo thrown in after 2 strong coffees.

The semi-hollow body of the ES-355 Alex Lifeson 1976 Reissue combines 5 plies of maple and poplar to maintain a balanced response even at high saturation settings. The solid maple centre block effectively reduces parasitic feedback and adds extra sustain. This construction is directly reminiscent of certain progressive rock productions from the '70s, without falling into a staid aesthetic.

In the Alpine White finish, the glued 3-piece maple neck is similar in construction to Gibson instruments produced in the 1970s. The scroll-reinforced joint improves mechanical strength in the headstock area, a detail often appreciated on heavily-used vintage models. The Slim C profile retains a fluid feel when moving fast, and the 12" radius facilitates both open chords and more technical high-pitched phrases.

The electronics develop a particularly wide sound palette thanks to Gibson T-Type humbuckers made in the USA. These are driven by a Varitone circuit that adds several filters to radically alter the colour of the signal without having to go through a complex chain of effects.
This configuration opens the door to textures suited to progressive rock, electric blues or certain more atmospheric productions with lots of dynamics.

The Vibrola Maestro provides smooth, nuanced pitch variations without altering the overall balance of the instrument, and adds an extra vintage touch. Combined with the Harmonica Tune-O-Matic bridge, it maintains a stable response for more expressive melodic passages.

The ebony fingerboard features large pearlescent markings that are highly visible, even in poor lighting conditions. This aesthetic touch improves visual comfort during concerts with little direct light on the neck.

Alex Lifeson helped found Rush in the late 1960s alongside Geddy Lee and John Rutsey, before Neil Peart joined a few years later. His playing blends progressive rock, hard rock and experimental textures with a strong focus on effects and complex harmonies. Several of the band's albums, such as 2112, Hemispheres and Moving Pictures, remain strongly associated with his guitar composition work.

Over the course of Rush's international tours, Alex Lifeson developed a particularly varied approach to sound, with many changes of guitar, effects and tuning. His playing alternates between aerial passages, nervous rhythms and more melodic lines built around recognisable extended chords.

Alongside Rush, Alex Lifeson has also been involved in a number of musical projects and collaborations with other Canadian and international rock artists. His approach to sound gradually influenced several generations of guitarists attracted by complex rhythmic constructions and less conventional textures.
