Gibson - J-185 Original Vintage Sunburst

The Gibson J-185 Original features a Vintage Sunburst gradient finish beneath a layer of Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer, which allows light to reflect off the surface rather than being muffled by a thick varnish. The J-185 silhouette expands into a Jumbo body – the brand’s largest size – designed for those who want plenty of volume under their fingers without plugging anything in.

This body is built around a Sitka spruce top framed by a multi-ply binding, with both the top and back crafted from flamed maple. The traditional ‘Belly Up’ bridge redistributes string tension towards the top rather than to a single point – a vintage design choice that allows air to circulate freely within the body.

The mahogany neck, joined to the body via a composite dovetail joint, features a Slim Taper profile that glides smoothly under the hand along the entire length of the 628.65 mm scale. The rosewood fingerboard has a radius of 304.80 mm, twenty standard frets and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. The 43.81 mm bone nut and Gotoh Keystone tuners ensure stable tuning from the first to the last string.

Beneath the bridge, an LR Baggs VTC piezo pickup converts the vibration of the wood into a signal and reproduces it with volume and tone adjustable at your fingertips, without the need for a pedal or external box to carry around.

The J-185 pickguard and nickel hardware round off this visual identity, inherited from the 1950s. The .012 to .053 strings and the hard case supplied complete the package, so you can set off to play without needing anything else.
