Gibson Southern Jumbo Original Vintage Sunburst The Gibson Southern Jumbo Original combines its mahogany grain with LR Baggs VTC electronics, a trusted companion from the studio to the stage. Its Sitka spruce top and tortoiseshell pickguard give it a folk sound with a 1950s feel.

Presentation
The 1950s tortoiseshell pickguard sets the tone even before the first note is played on the Gibson Southern Jumbo Original. The Vintage Sunburst finish is overlaid with a layer of Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer that allows the wood grain to show through, whilst the J-45 shape serves as a reminder that this Jumbo retains a familiar silhouette despite its name.
The Sitka spruce top is set against plywood binding on the front and back, framing a mahogany back and sides that impart a warmer, rounder tone than classic maple. The traditional ‘belly-up’ bridge, with holes drilled in the centre, rests on a hand-carved X-brace to distribute vibration across the entire top.
The mahogany neck is joined to the body via a compound-radius dovetail joint and features a SlimTaper profile over a scale length of 628.65 mm. The rosewood fingerboard features a radius of 304.80 mm, twenty standard frets and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. The 43.81 mm bone nut and open-back tuning machines ensure the guitar stays in tune from one play-through to the next.
Beneath the bridge, an LR Baggs VTC piezo pickup converts the movement of the strings into a signal with adjustable volume and tone, without the need for any additional equipment to be plugged in between the guitar and the amplifier.
The Tusq tuning pegs secure the strings against nickel hardware, and the .012 to .053 strings maintain the tension specific to this size. The guitar comes in a hard case with a Gibson accessory kit, ready to play straight out of the box.

Since its inception in the late 19th century, Gibson has left its mark on the history of the American guitar with models that have become iconic. The Southern Jumbo was introduced in 1942 as a more ornate evolution of the J-45, with its rounded-shoulder body and parallelogram inlays. This historical continuity explains its appeal to acoustic guitar enthusiasts who are drawn to the Gibson character and its American heritage.
