Presentation
The Hiwatt DR103 is a 100 W tube head designed by Dave Reeves, a historic reference for musicians looking for a clear, precise and faithful sound. Thanks to its two channels, Normal and Bright, each with Hi and Low inputs, you can adapt the sensitivity level to suit your pickups, whether you have powerful humbuckers or more delicate single-coils. These settings allow you to control the sound right from the source, without any loss of clarity, and avoid strident highs or a sound that's too flat.
The DR103 is hand-wired in the UK to Harry Joyce standards, with a circuit faithful to that of Dave Reeves in the 60s. The 4 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 x EL34 power tubes contribute to an extremely dynamic sound, capable of preserving the purity of the sound even at high volumes.
The presence of a Master Volume, as well as a 3-band EQ common to both channels (Bass, Middle, Treble) and a Presence control allows you to finely shape the sound on stage or in the studio, giving body to the bass and brilliance to the treble.
In terms of connections, the DR103 has two 1/4" jack speaker outputs with 4, 8 or 16 Ω impedance selectors, offering optimum compatibility with most loudspeaker cabinets. Its robust cabling and 18 mm birch-ply construction, carefully tested by Hiwatt's custom shop, guarantee a stage-ready head capable of withstanding intensive touring while maintaining a stable, accurate sound.
This model can amplify guitars, basses, keyboards or acoustic instruments, with faithful reproduction of the instrument, even when used with pedals.
The combination of hand-crafted wiring, carefully selected tubes and Dave Reeves' original design gives the DR103 a wide frequency response and an organic sound that remains natural and accurate at all volumes, while retaining Hiwatt's legendary British character.

To find out more...
Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
The Original HIWATT is still hand-wired to Dave Reeves' exacting specifications, using only the highest quality British speakers, components and audio transformers.
