Presentation
The Hiwatt DR504 retains the clear, detailed sound of the legendary DR103, while offering a reduced power output of 50 W, ideal for playing at recording volume without losing clarity. Its sound remains highly accurate and detailed, with a recognisable English grain that enhances every nuance of your playing. Whether you're plugging in a guitar, keyboard or acoustic instrument, the DR504 remains transparent and faithful to your sound, while still being able to achieve a natural crunch when you turn up the volume.
The head has 2 channels, Normal and Bright, each with 2 inputs (High and Low), which can be bridged to obtain more dynamics and punch. This configuration makes it easy to manage very different pickups: models lacking in brilliance gain in presence, while overly aggressive pickups are softened.
The controls remain simple to manipulate, with a volume for each channel, a Master Volume and a common three-band EQ, enhanced by a Presence control to adjust the overall brightness.
Each DR504 is entirely hand-wired in the UK to Harry Joyce standards, with carefully selected components and the famous Partridge™ transformer, 4 ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes and 2 EL34 power tubes.
This attention to detail ensures reliable operation and immediate response, capable of reproducing all the subtle changes in your playing. The amp accepts a wide variety of instruments and effects, making it an appropriate choice for both studio and stage.
Pedals stay true to their sound, without the need for effects loops, and channel bridging lets you explore richer sonic textures whenever you want.
The DR504 connects easily to external speakers via its two jack outputs. Its lightweight format and intuitive controls make it accessible even to those new to Hiwatt amps, and it offers a sophisticated palette of sounds.

To find out more...
Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
The Original HIWATT is still hand-wired to Dave Reeves' exacting specifications, using only the highest quality British speakers, components and audio transformers.
