The Studio/Stage 20/40 is a tube head that pushes the famous SA20 Custom circuit to its limits. With adjustable power from 40 W to 20 W, it gives you the chance to enjoy natural overdrive and dynamic clean sound, even at moderate volumes.

Unlike more powerful Hiwatt amps, which maintain an immaculate clean sound whatever the circumstances, this head invites you to experiment with its gain: as soon as you push the potentiometer towards noon, the sound becomes richer and develops an expressive drive that's immediately pleasant to the touch.

The integrated spring reverb, long and deep, adds an extra dimension to the sound and allows you to sculpt the sonic space with finesse. The foot-activated boost or push/pull potentiometer adds flexibility, giving extra punch and intensity when you need it. The Bright switch and independent Hi and Low inputs offer fine control over treble and midrange, revealing the personality of each guitar and rewarding extreme EQ settings.

True to Hiwatt tradition, the Studio/Stage 20/40 is hand-wired to Harry Joyce military standards and fitted with Partridge™ transformers. Each component is selected to ensure optimum responsiveness and faithful sonic rendering, making it a particularly intuitive tool for exploring different textures and dynamics, from punchy riffs to more delicate lines.

Designed to be plug and play, it can be adapted to any situation: rehearsals, studios or small stages. Selectable power, adjustable gain and built-in reverb let you shape your sound without compromise, while retaining the Hiwatt signature that sets each note apart. With this head, each instrument reveals its own personality, and the musician rediscovers the immediate pleasure of a lively, inspiring amp, capable of following all his ideas, from the purest clarity to the most natural drive.

Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
