Guaranteed flawless recording for sound engineers
The JoeCo BlackBox BBR64-Dante has been specifically developed to resolve critical issues associated with the use of computers in live performance environments. For sound engineers and broadcast managers, stability is paramount. Unlike a computer workstation prone to crashes, this dedicated hardware unit offers an ultra-reliable ‘computer-free’ solution for multi-channel audio capture.

One of its major advantages is its ability to record up to 64 channels at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz directly onto an external USB 2.0 hard drive formatted in FAT32. This design eliminates the need for lengthy and tedious file transfers: once the concert has finished, the drive can be connected directly to any DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for immediate mixing, as the files are recorded in the standard Broadcast WAV format.

Data security is enhanced by Safe’n’Sound Record Recovery technology. In the event of an accidental power cut during the performance, this system is capable of recovering the audio files, thereby protecting the integrity of your work. Furthermore, its flexibility is enhanced by the inclusion of 8 balanced analogue inputs that can operate in parallel with 56 Dante channels, allowing you to capture the atmosphere of the audience without drawing on the main network’s resources

The secret of ‘56 + 8’: A little-known feature of the BBR64-Dante is its ability to mix input sources. Although it is a 64-channel Dante recorder, it allows you to capture 56 channels from the network and 8 channels via its physical analogue inputs simultaneously.

This is an extremely effective way of recording ambient or audience microphones without ‘clogging up’ the main Dante network’s bandwidth, or if your console’s slots are already all occupied.

Furthermore, if you’re working on large-scale productions, bear in mind that multiple BlackBox units can be stacked to further increase the total number of tracks, whilst remaining perfectly synchronised.

Finally, the Safe’n’Sound feature is not just a marketing gimmick: it has been designed to properly close audio files in the event of a power failure, thereby preventing corrupted, unreadable files – a common nightmare on computer-based systems.
