You plug in your bass, turn up the volume a bit, and you want it to sound right away without spending ten minutes tweaking it. That's exactly where the Laney Digbeth Foundry DBF100 comes into its own. With its 100 watts and 12" loudspeaker, it easily covers a session at home, a rehearsal with a drummer or a small live performance. The sound remains legible, even when you're playing with other musicians, so you don't disappear into the mix.

Where it gets interesting is in the way you build your sound. You have a clear, precise channel that retains the nuances of your playing, and a drive channel that adds grit, a bit like pushing an older amp. The mix control lets you dose the two, so you can keep a clean base while adding character.

If you want to go fast, the preshape directly changes the balance by deepening the midrange, useful for slap or certain rock sounds. The EQ and Tilt function then give you simple but effective control to adapt your sound to the room or band, without getting lost in complicated settings.

On a day-to-day basis, it's easy to live with. You can plug in an audio track for work, play with headphones in the evening, or send your signal to a PA system via the DI output. The effects loop lets you integrate your pedals neatly. The combo format means you don't have to multiply your gear, and its solid construction means you're reassured when you need to move it regularly. It's an amp that keeps pace with you, whether you're working on a groove at home or playing with a band.

Laney is a British amplification brand founded in the 60s, born in a garage like many of the big names in audio. Initially very much focused on rock and the 'British' sound, the brand has made a name for itself with amplifiers used in both classic and very heavy contexts, particularly in rock and metal.

Over the years, Laney has retained this 'musician first' base: amplifiers designed to be played, not complicated, with a real field logic. The seriousness of the manufacturing process and the quest for versatility have become a hallmark of the brand.

The Digbeth Foundry series takes up this DNA, but in a more accessible version. The idea is simple: to offer modern bass amps with useful functions (drive, mix, EQ, DI, headphones, etc.) without making the approach complicated. It's a range designed to go from working at home to more serious gigs, without changing equipment.
