This Pearl Session Studio Select 14 x 5.5" Scarlet Ash has that direct, responsive feel you love in a lower-barrel snare.
The mix of 4-ply birch and 2-ply African mahogany creates a warm base, with a midrange that's present and pleasant under the stick. The 6-ply 5.4 mm barrel retains its roundness, while remaining precise when accentuating ghost notes or full centre hits.
The 60° bevels provide a clean, clear attack in the mix, without making the sound aggressive. The deep-drawn SuperHoop II rims provide good hold in rimshots, with a solid, stable feel.
Between the SR-017 trigger and the S-022N timbre, there's a smooth, controlled response, even at different voltages. The Scarlet Ash finish, combined with the chrome fittings, gives it a classy, discreet look that's just as suited to the studio as it is to the stage.
