Presentation
The Savarez 5209R is a specialist string - the low 9th string of a 10-string guitar, an instrument whose low architecture exceeds all that a standard set allows. The steel core is not an insignificant choice at this level of tension: the metal resists progressive elongation under load, whereas a synthetic core would lose its intonation over such an extended vibrating length. The silver wire closes the equation by smoothing the contact surface - movements in the low position remain clean, without catching on the windings.
The normal classification places this set-up in a cruising tension range, neither excessive nor undersized for contemporary or polyphonic ten-string repertoire. The red colour acts as a position marker: in a ten-string set, visual identification of the set-up or restocking is not a luxury.
