The Savarez 5209R is a specialist string - the low 9th string of a 10-string guitar, an instrument whose low architecture exceeds all that a standard set allows. The steel core is not an insignificant choice at this level of tension: the metal resists progressive elongation under load, whereas a synthetic core would lose its intonation over such an extended vibrating length.
