Born in Bombay, India, Trilok Gurtu is a leading figure in world percussion and a true pioneer of jazz-fusion and world music.
Coming from a family of traditional musicians, he revolutionised the world of rhythm by uniquely combining Indian percussion instruments (such as the tabla) with a modified Western drum kit, often playing on his knees amidst a hybrid set-up.
Throughout his legendary career, he has collaborated with the biggest names in jazz and rock, from John McLaughlin and Joe Zawinul to Jan Garbarek and Robert Miles, establishing himself as a global authority thanks to his sense of improvisation and his boundless virtuosity.
