Founded in 19691, Allen & Heath, also known by its initials AH or A&H, is a company based in Penryn, England, specialising in the manufacture of mixing desks and consoles.
In the early 1970s, Allen & Heath built a custom four-input mixer for Pink Floyd, the MOD1, which was used by Alan Parsons to mix their concerts. The MOD1 can be seen in their film "Live at Pompeii".
Allen & Heath was the first company to fit potentiometers and switches to the circuit's input channels. These were the first modular mixers where components could be replaced individually. The company was also the first to make a small mixer with 6 channels and 2 transistorised output channels called the MiniMixer. It also made the Syncron A, the first mixer to use operational amplifiers. The CMC console pioneered the use of a microprocessor to integrate MIDI capabilities into a mixer. The GL2 console combined 'Front of House' and 'foldback' functions in a single console, a so-called 'dual-function' console.
