This Thunderbolt 2 to 3 (and vice versa) adapter from Apple lets you connect a digital audio interface or external hard drive/SSD with a Thunderbolt 2 port to a Mac or PC with a Thunderbolt 3 port.

Presentation
The Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Adapter is used to connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices (Thunderbolt 1 or 2 digital audio interfaces and external hard drives) to any Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your computer (usually latest-generation Apple).
As this is a bi-directional adapter, it also allows you to connect Thunderbolt 3 devices to a Mac with a Thunderbolt 2 port and macOS Sierra or higher, where backwards compatibility has been confirmed by the manufacturer. This is the case for Universal Audio's Apollo X, for example.
