Axel Technology’s 3-metre RJ45 to 3-pin female XLR and Sub-D9 adapter combines, in a single cable, the audio connection for a microphone and the GPIO controls required for its integration into a compatible console. This accessory is designed for set-ups where the RJ45 connection is used not only to carry the audio signal, but also to manage control functions.

On the microphone side, the 3-pin female XLR connector provides the connection to the audio source. The signal is then routed to the RJ45 interface on the Axel Technology equipment. At the same time, the Sub-D9 connector provides access to the GPIO lines integrated into the cabling. This arrangement avoids the need for multiple connections between the console and the microphone unit and helps keep the setup around the console tidy.

The configuration shown here includes two GPI inputs and one GPO output. These lines can be used to transmit control signals or retrieve status information from the system, depending on the functions supported by the equipment to which the adapter is connected. The cable thus acts as a genuine interface between the microphone and the console’s control functions, rather than simply an audio extension cable.

At 3 metres, the cable provides sufficient length to position a microphone or workstation without requiring it to be placed directly next to the console. It is particularly well-suited to control room layouts where Axel Technology RJ45 connections consolidate multiple functions within the cabling system.
