B&C Speakers - 14DS88 8 Ohm

The 14DS88 8 Ohm from B&C Speakers is part of a generation of transducers designed to maximise energy efficiency and power handling in low-frequency applications. Here, work has focused on optimising the motor and coil to limit thermal compression while maintaining stable behaviour at high levels.

The 88mm voice coil uses a four-layer aluminium structure with CCAW wire to increase heat dissipation while keeping the weight down. This design promotes greater overall efficiency and the ability to handle high power levels over time, with an AES power rating of 1400 W.

The internal neodymium motor ensures a dense magnetic field while reducing the weight of the loudspeaker. Combined with an aluminium demodulation ring, it helps maintain low distortion and a more linear response, particularly in areas of high excursion.

The diaphragm has a curvilinear profile with a waterproof treatment on the front, ensuring reliable use in a variety of environments. The suspension system is based on a double silicone spider, designed to stabilise travel and improve mechanical strength under heavy loads.

With a sensitivity of 97.3 dB and a response between 45 Hz and 1200 Hz, this model can be easily integrated into bass-reflex or hybrid loads, as a compact subwoofer or in the bass section of more complex systems. The useful travel and the Xvar mean that its behaviour remains under control even at high levels.
