Behringer - 2600 Gray Meanie
Discover the Behringer 2600 Gray Meanie, a limited-edition tribute to the iconic ARP 2600 synthesizer, with more features than the original. Great care has gone into the design of the analogue circuits to keep them true to the original, the semi-modular architecture and the triple VCO design of the Gray Meanie, which combine to recreate the classic sounds reminiscent of classical electronic music. This attention to detail gives Gray Meanie its ultra-flexible sound shaping capability, allowing you to recreate incredible sounds, super fat bass and tasty tracks, right down to a dreamy ambience straight from the confines of your imagination.
Presentation
Earlier synthesizers were massive, sophisticated devices that cost thousands of dollars, but in 1971 Alan R. Pearlman and Dennis Colin set out to create a more portable version of their huge ARP 2500 modular synth that they could market more widely to musicians.
From this concept came the semi-modular ARP 2600 synthesiser, which became an instant hit and was quickly adopted by many famous musicians, including Edgar Winter, Pete Townshend, Herbie Hancock and Jean-Michel Jarre, to name but a few.
Shortly after the release of the first models, ARP created a bright blue version of the 2600 called 'Blue Marvin', named after ARP's CFO, Marvin Cohen.
Then, in mid-1971, the blue faceplate was replaced by a grey one, and this new unit was nicknamed the 'Gray Meanie'.
Compared to the original Behringer 2600, the GREY MEANIE features mechanical spring reverb, hand-picked components, single-colour LEDs on each fader and a super-smooth paint job that will make your setup stand out!
Evoke virtually any sound imaginable with incredible finesse and ease.
The pure analogue signal path is based on the authentic ARP 2600 circuit from the 70s with adapted transistors and JFETs.
Owning a GREY MEANIE is like having your own piece of history, allowing you to recreate timeless classics or forge your own musical path.
