The story of Celestion officially begins in 1924 in the suburbs of London, where the three French brothers had set up a small sub-contracting business, Electrical Manufacturing and PLating Company (EMPC).
One day, a certain Eric Mackintosh asked for their help in developing a loudspeaker of his own design.
This became the first model marketed by the young company, which Ralph, the fourth French brother to join them, named Celestion.
Radio was booming at the time, which naturally benefited EMPC.
1932 saw the invention of the moving coil, which led them to market the first two-way domestic loudspeaker, the Celestion Reetone Dual.
Then came the era of miniaturisation with the popularisation of television sets and the equipping of television studios.
After the war, these innovations gave Celestion a virtual monopoly in the UK!
This did not prevent it from being bought out in 1947 by Rola (originally an American company), which was itself sold to Truvox Limited a year later.
It was at the end of the 50s that Celestion took a close interest in speakers for guitar amps, achieving a master stroke with the famous Celestion Blue, which was then found in VOX AC30s and Marshalls in particular.
This model was later adapted for all types of instrument, and even for PA systems.
Demand for powerful PA systems was growing, and speakers had to keep up.
Celestion created the G12 in the 60s, available with different sized coils.
A huge success if ever there was one.
Sound, hi-fi, instruments - Celestion was on all fronts, with a price range to suit all domestic and professional uses.
Twenty years on, the company continues to grow and becomes Celestion International.
Over the years, production has become renowned for its cutting-edge technology, including laser calculation of loudspeaker cones and computer-aided manufacturing, keeping it one step ahead of the competition.
