Compressor / Gate

Stereo compressor, class-A audio circuit.

ARTICLE N° 57273
Sonovente recommends the Elysia Xpressor as an excellent tool for dynamic processing. Because, as well as being the most versatile of compressors, it has all the functions of its famous predecessors. So not only do you have access to high-level compression, but also to an unrivalled range of signal control.

Whether you want to set it right once and for all, or immerse yourself in dynamic experimentation, the xpressor is for you. Its separate component audio circuitry operating in constant class-A mode ensures the best possible sound quality, clear, open and punchy at the same time.

From buss compression to separate track compression and the most creative approaches to dynamics - xpressor delivers on all fronts.

  • Controls
  • Threshold (Thresh): The threshold at which the compressor engages. As soon as the level exceeds this threshold, the signal is compressed.
  • Attack: The transient response of the compressor. This is also the time it takes for the compressor to reach 10dB of gain reduction after exceeding the threshold.
  • Release: The time it takes for the compressor to return the signal to its unit level after the signal has exceeded the threshold.
  • Ratio: Refers to the ratio between the input level and the output level. The xpressor can also be used to select negative ratios.
  • SCF: A low-cut filter in the sidechain of the xpressor prevents excessive compression or 'pumping' effects when the low-frequency content is high.
  • Gain Reduction Limiter (GRL): Limits the control voltage. This new limiter is not located in the audio circuit, but in the compressor control circuit.
  • Gain: The compressor's 'make up gain'. This compensates for the loss of gain caused by the compression itself.
  • Mix: The uncompressed signal and the compressed signal can be mixed using the single mix control. On-board parallel compression!
  • Gain Reduction Meter: Expressed in dB, it shows the amount of gain reduction applied to the source. It continues to display the reduction once the compressor is bypassed.
  • GRL LED: Indicates the activity of the Gain Reduction Limiter. If it is lit, the incoming signal does not exceed the maximum amount of compression selected using the pot.
  • Auto Fast: A semi-automatic function. This function automatically shortens the attack time on the strongest and fastest transients.
  • Log Release (Log Rel): An alternative form of the release curve. When this function is engaged, the curve changes from a linear progression to a smoother logarithmic one.
  • Warm Mode: The xpressor lets you make the source sound different by altering its frequency, harmonic and transient content.
  • Hit It! switches on the xpressor (LED lit) or the bypass (hardwire bypass) while keeping the GR meter active.
