Beneath the glossy nitrocellulose varnish, the dovetail neck joint and heated hide glue ensure that the tension of the strings is anchored in a stable joint that remains so throughout the changing seasons. Inside, the traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing allows the top to vibrate freely. The five-layer binding on the top and three-layer binding on the back protect the edges of the wood.

The 25.5-inch scale length tensions the strings more firmly than a shorter scale, a choice that suits both pick playing and barre chords. The two-piece maple neck, carved to a rounded profile, sits comfortably under the hand. An Indian rosewood fingerboard, 12-inch radius, twenty standard frets, progressive mother-of-pearl inlays and a 43.82 mm TUSQ nut complete the responsive feel.

The SJ-200 moustache bridge, with two rosewood bars, distributes vibrations across the entire soundboard. The SJ-200 Cream Flower pickguard, with edging and dots, completes the silhouette with a floral motif that has been engraved for decades. The gold-finished Grover Rotomatic tuners maintain stable tuning from one song to the next.

The hybrid configuration of an internal pickup and a piezo under the bridge, controlled by the L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup and its volume, blend and level controls, reproduces the acoustic tone faithfully. Phase inversion cuts out feedback before it even starts. A 6.35 mm jack output, .012 to .053 strings and a Gibson hard case accompany the guitar on its journey from the studio to the stage.
