In the early days, Gibson did not simply seek to perfect existing instruments: Orville Gibson applied violin-making principles to mandolins, with tops and backs carved from solid wood. Today, the workshops in Bozeman carry on this legacy using handcrafted methods and traditional assembly techniques.
