Presentation
The Gretsch Walnut Stave snare drum is built with a barrel-type walnut body. The stave process involves assembling wooden staves in the same way as for a barrel, which limits the amount of glue and enhances the natural resonance.
Walnut brings dark overtones and a particular warmth to the sound. The barrel is thickened with 8mm reinforcement rings to increase strength and prolong vibration. The 30° chamfers facilitate contact between the skins and the wood, giving a homogenous sound. The 3 mm triple flanged steel hoops ensure stability and a clean attack. The 20-strand timbre with brass finish adds sensitive, controlled articulation.
The shells also use brass for tapping, ensuring that the tuning will hold for a long time. The chrome-plated fittings complete the ensemble with a sober, solid aesthetic. The Gretsch skins, made by Remo USA, are factory-fitted for an immediate finish.
