Presentation
It's the sound of legendary Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil. And you can reproduce it with the Kim Thayil Polara.
Handcrafted with a solid Honduran mahogany body and neck, this guitar has all the favourite features of Kim's 1978 S-100 Polara: a '70s shape and large headstock true to the original.
When it comes to sound, there's no compromise: custom Guild HB-1 Humbuckers made by Jason Lollar, renowned for his exceptional pickups. These pickups reproduce the warm, precise sound of vintage models, while offering great clarity to cut through the mix, ideal for Kim's favourite heavy tones. A 3-position selector and phase switch, faithful to the vintage specifications, give you a huge sound palette.
The grunge aesthetic is also there, with a white nitrocellulose finish and gold hardware. The "King Animal" and "Badmotorfinger" nameplates signed by Kim Thayil pay tribute to his legendary band.
More than just a guitar, the Kim Thayil Polara is a collector's item, an exceptional instrument that lets you put your finger on the grunge heritage and create your own sonic legends.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary, Guild presents the Polara Kim Thayil, a signature model dedicated to the Soundgarden guitarist and his link with the S-100 Polara for over 30 years.
A pioneer of the 'Seattle sound', Kim embodies the grunge sound of the 80s and 90s, shaped by his S-100.
The guitar is inspired by two of Kim's signature instruments: his 1978 S-100 Polara and his white stage guitar with gold accents.
With its 70s headstock, mahogany construction and HB-1 pickups, the Kim Thayil Polara captures the magic of Kim's original S-100.
- Toggle Switch 3 positions + Mini Toggle Bridge Phase :
1. Bridge
This position has the most bite and responds very well to distortion. Perfect for solos or up-front rhythm parts, the Guild HB-1 humbucker has the bold midrange typical of standard humbuckers but with tighter lows and sparkling highs that don't become brittle. Turning down the volume on the bridge pickup produces a sound similar to that of a single coil (the phase switch does not work in this position).
2. Bridge + Neck (in Phase)
This position combines the humbucking tones of the neck and bridge. Thick, creamy mids, fat, round basses and clear highs make for an excellent all-round sound. The vintage-style wiring allows more interaction between the controls and a wide range of tonal options.
3. Bridge + Neck (Out of phase)
Inverting the phase switch completely changes the interaction between the bridge and neck pickups. Gone are the thick, creamy mids, replaced by a hollow, thin, nasal tone. Ideal for funk, reggae or whenever extra cut is needed. Pickup interaction can be adjusted by slightly lowering the volume control on either pickup, gradually bringing the pickups back into phase.
4. Neck
This position produces a smooth, creamy sound ideal for everything from blues to leadtones. Where many humbuckers can get muddy in the neck position, the Guild HB-1 brings the neck position to life with greater clarity. (The phase switch does not work in this position).
